In an age where careers often follow predictable paths, the story of Ranjisha Raghavan stands out as a powerful reminder that purpose can evolve in unexpected ways. Today recognized as an “artivist”, an artist who uses creativity as a tool for advocacy her journey is not just about art, but about awareness, responsibility, and impact.
Early Life Rooted in Nature
Ranjisha’s upbringing between the United Arab Emirates and India played a significant role in shaping her worldview. While the UAE offered a structured and urban lifestyle, her time in India brought her closer to nature. Long before digital distractions became the norm, her childhood was filled with outdoor experiences observing plants, textures, and the quiet rhythm of the natural world.
These early moments, though subtle at the time, laid the foundation for what would later become the core of her artistic identity.
A Creative Spirit Beyond Boundaries
Creativity was never unfamiliar to her. From the age of three, she trained as a dancer and explored music and performance throughout her early years. Yet, like many, she chose a more conventional professional route, building a career in engineering within the oil and gas industry.
Her work in Quality Management, Health, Safety, and Environment programs exposed her to the realities of industrial impact on ecosystems. This phase of her life deepened her understanding of environmental responsibility, gradually influencing her personal choices and mindset.
A Chance Encounter with Art
In 2014, an unexpected moment changed everything. While experimenting with her daughter’s painting materials, Ranjisha discovered a connection with art that felt immediate and instinctive. What began as curiosity quickly turned into passion.
Self-taught and driven by experimentation, she immersed herself in learning techniques, exploring mediums, and filling her home with artwork. At that stage, art was not a profession but a personal escape a space of joy and exploration.
The Turning Point
A major shift came in 2016 during a sabbatical following her move from Abu Dhabi to Dubai. With time to reflect and create, she began taking her practice seriously. Exhibitions followed, along with recognition from collectors and the art community.
It was during this period that she made a bold decision stepping away from her corporate career to pursue art full-time. It marked the beginning of her journey as a professional artist.
From Artist to Artivist
Her transformation into an artivist was deeply personal. In 2018, her daughter brought home a rescued kitten, an experience that changed her perception of animals entirely. What began as hesitation soon turned into a profound emotional connection.
Living with animals opened her eyes to their intelligence, sensitivity, and individuality. This shift inspired her to explore wildlife conservation more deeply, leading her to study animal behavior and environmental issues. Influences such as the work of Jane Goodall further reinforced her belief in hope and individual action.
Gradually, her art evolved from landscapes to wildlife storytelling. Her work became a voice for species and ecosystems, giving rise to her identity as an artivist.

Art with Purpose
Ranjisha’s commitment to conservation goes beyond the canvas. Through initiatives like her exhibitions and collaborations with conservation organizations, she has actively contributed to real-world impact.
One notable effort involved supporting an avian rescue campaign in India during a festival season when thousands of birds were injured. Through fundraising and awareness, her work helped support treatment and rehabilitation efforts, a moment she describes as deeply emotional and affirming.
Evolving Artistic Practice
Her artistic journey reflects constant evolution. Beginning with oils, she later explored acrylics, alcohol inks, and eventually mixed media. Today, her work blends abstract realism and surrealism, capturing both the physical and emotional essence of wildlife.
This dual approach allows her to create pieces that are not just visually compelling but also deeply evocative inviting viewers to connect with nature on a more personal level.

Building a Platform for Change
With the support of her family, she founded Mystic Arts by Ranjisha, a platform that merges art, storytelling, and conservation. A portion of her proceeds supports environmental and wildlife causes, reinforcing her belief that art can be a catalyst for change.
Her participation in exhibitions like World Art Dubai has further expanded her reach, connecting her work with a global audience.
A Vision for the Future
Today, Ranjisha continues to explore themes of interconnected ecosystems, with recent work inspired by the UAE’s desert wildlife. Her vision extends beyond artistic recognition. She aims to build structured fundraising initiatives and expand her impact internationally.
Her story is not just about changing careers. It is about redefining purpose.
A Story That Resonates
From engineer to artist, from observer to advocate, Ranjisha Raghavan’s journey highlights the power of transformation. Her work reminds us that art is not just expression, it is connection, awareness, and action.
Because when people feel connected to the natural world, they begin to care. And when they care, change becomes possible.
